Newbridge Landslide

Here are my final map, and report for our first assignment.  I am going to keep playing with the formatting on this blog until I can figure out the nuances, please leave tips and suggestions with comments on the map and assignments.

Here is the link to my Report on Affected Properties

You will see in the report that I  only focused on the 36 properties completely within the 1/4 mile radius, not the 73 that are partially within this zone.  Also I did not differentiate the fire districts explicitly since they may say two different names but Weaverville is responsible for responding to both districts.

Have a Great weekend!

Oh, I just discovered, click on the map to see it larger like it is supposed to be seen....

  1. Hello Doug,

Good job! I like the use of areal shot in the sample parcel. It helps people at a meeting better associate the contour lines with the actual property. I like that you zoomed out on the landslide map to show the fire department. In a meeting about landslides and preparedness this could be an important reference point. I like that you have the municipalities and roads on the Buncombe County map but there may be too much color at work.
Thanks for the comments on my page. You are absolutely right about my Buncombe County map being too small. If I went back I would swap the sample parcel map with the Buncombe map to make it more readable.

  2. I just realized I looked at your map first. Then after I started making my map on Saturday. I think your map layout was so good I ended up copying some of your layout ideas on my map. I like how you were zooming away to show not just the town limits, but the Fire department location too.
